Project Update: Crewkerne

All the latest from our team on-site at Wool Gardens for Taylor Wimpey

Our team is continuing to make excellent progress on our major residential project for Taylor Wimpey at Wool Gardens, Crewkerne.

We recently completed the Section 278 works on Station Road and have now begun work on the much-anticipated Section 278 improvements on Yeovil Road, at the opposite end of the development. This marks another important milestone for the project and will help deliver the infrastructure required to support the growing community.

Across the wider site, work on the plots is progressing well and remains on schedule.

Wool Gardens forms part of a significant new community taking shape on the eastern side of Crewkerne. Located between Station Road and Yeovil Road, the wider development will deliver hundreds of new homes alongside important community facilities, employment space, areas of public open space and major infrastructure improvements. Our current phase of work for Taylor Wimpey encompasses 109 plots and the extensive groundworks and infrastructure required to support these new homes.

Our extensive scope of works includes:

➡️ 109 plots
➡️ Earthworks, including approximately 150,000m³ of topsoil and subsoil movement
➡️ Approximately 20,000m² of roads
➡️ Approximately 9,000m² of footpaths
➡️ 5,500m of drainage
➡️ Culverts and mammal crossing points
➡️ Pump station and off-site rising main connection
➡️ Two Section 278 junctions
➡️ Multiple attenuation ponds

We’re proud of the progress being made by everyone involved and look forward to sharing further updates as work continues.

A huge shout-out to the team at Ground Stabilisation Solutions (GSS), who have played a key role in our work on the project so far. Their team has supported us with the stabilisation and reuse of approximately 40,000m³ of site-won material. This has been used to construct the new embankment for the carriageway, as well as providing a capping replacement beneath the highway.

Soil stabilisation uses lime and cement to strengthen existing material and increase its load-bearing capacity, transforming material that may otherwise have been unsuitable for construction into a valuable on-site resource.

By treating and reusing the material in situ, we have been able to significantly reduce waste, minimise the need to import new aggregates and cut the number of haulage movements associated with this key stage of the project—helping to lower its overall environmental impact.
