Remembering Kieran James Lerwill
It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the sudden and tragic loss of Kieran James Lerwill, a much-loved member of the Champion Groundworks team, who recently passed away following a serious road traffic collision.
Kieran joined Team Champion early last year through his childhood friend Matt, who was already part of our team. Coming from a welding background, Kieran had little experience in groundworks, but his willingness to learn soon saw him finding his feet. He initially worked as part of a finishings gang before moving on to plot foundations at our project in Landkey, Barnstaple. Keen to develop his skills and build a career with us, Kieran had a bright future ahead of him.
An avid motorcyclist, Kieran rarely missed an opportunity to get out on his bike. Riding gave him a sense of freedom that fellow bikers will understand. Whether exploring Devon’s country lanes or watching the TT with friends, motorcycling was a much-loved part of his life.
On site, Kieran was known for being cool, calm and collected, with a dry sense of humour and a well-timed one-liner that could always make those around him laugh. His teammates would fondly tell you that if he picked up a knock or a scrape, they would be hearing about it for a couple of weeks afterwards—a memory that will still bring a smile to those who knew him.
His absence is deeply felt, particularly by those who worked alongside him and the friends who knew him best. Across the wider Champion Groundworks family, we are shocked and saddened by the loss of such a young and promising member of our team.
Our heartfelt condolences go to Kieran’s mum Jennie, stepdad Adam and partner Amiee, along with his wider family, friends and everyone affected by his passing. Our thoughts are with you all during this incredibly difficult time.
Kieran, thank you for the hard work, the laughter and the memories. You will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all of us at Champion.
