Champion Groundworks joined the Sherford Town project in its early stages, partnering with Steve Hoskins Construction to form Groundfix, a joint venture specifically created to handle the extensive earthmoving and infrastructure work for Phase 1.
Our involvement required assembling specialised teams skilled in large-scale groundworks, earthmoving, and infrastructure development to meet the unique challenges of this ambitious new town project.
Sherford Town is a visionary £1 billion development project aimed at creating a sustainable new community in the South Hams area of Devon. Spanning 1,200 acres, this ambitious plan will eventually provide homes for up to 12,000 residents, along with schools, businesses, and community facilities. The project is designed to blend seamlessly with the existing landscape while incorporating modern urban planning principles.
Our role at Champion Groundworks has been pivotal in transforming the rural landscape into a foundation for urban development. We've been responsible for preparing the site for construction, which includes extensive earthworks, drainage systems, and utility installations. Our work has laid the groundwork for the phased construction of approximately 5,500 homes, three primary schools, a secondary school, a town hall, a health center, a sports center, and a 200-acre community park.
The project's scale and complexity have required us to deploy a wide range of specialized equipment and techniques. We've utilized state-of-the-art GPS-guided machinery for precise earthmoving operations, implemented sustainable drainage solutions to manage water runoff, and coordinated closely with other contractors to ensure seamless integration of various infrastructure elements.
